More side scan sonar work off the island of Zannone. Today, we were joined by our local partners from the Lazio Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, who were brought out to the site by the Guardia di Finanza. The latter do a great job in supporting heritage operations at sea.

We are now covering some promising areas that are situated off the channel between the Zannone and Gavi islands. In ancient times, Ponza was an essential waypoint for vessels travelling to and from the ports on the Lazio coast with hundreds of ships stopping or passing by every year. The Gavi-Zannone channel is dominated by three low-lying reefs which remain a serious hazard to maritime traffic in the area.

Over the past days, we have detected a number of promising targets so please continue to watch this space.
